Long-standing goal judge Andy Smith died suddenly and tragically in January 2008 at the age of 46, and has been posthumanly added to the Hall of Fame for his years of dedication as an off ice official.
Andy was goal judge for the goal in front of block 10 in the NIC and before that at the stage end in the old Ice Stadium. He was in his 27th season as a goal judge, and he sat for over 500 Panthers games, as well as several Championship weekends, cup finals and international matches. He was also often to be seen at junior games, teaching new recruits how to do the job and preparing them for the step up to working Panthers games.
Goal judging was such an important part of Andy’s life that at his funeral, he was in his stripey top, with his clipboard and NIC pass.
